MUSIC: THEME MUSIC ENDS

COURIER AIRLOCK

(SAME AMBIENT AS BEFORE, AIDAN, ENLING, & TORMAR HAVE VOICES “IN HELMET”)

ENLING
You know Tormar, you could have warned us the Silver Star had particle beam weapons.

TORMAR
They did not have them while I was aboard, Doctor. They have obviously upgraded.

AIDAN
That’s a pretty effective upgrade. There’s no way we can chance escaping out the airlock now.

THE ROBOT
Exactly, Aidan Vosky. As I stated, we must make alternate plans.

SOUND: AIR RUSHES IN

AIDAN
True, uh, Robot, but it would help if you stopped doing things like guess people’s names.

THE ROBOT
It is not a guess. You are Aidan Vosky, a Saluvian, within six sigma.

AIDAN
See? That’s what I’m talking about.

ENLING
Robots are very observant, Aidan. It probably heard us call you by name. Isn’t that right, tin man?

THE ROBOT
“Tin Man” is not my designation.

TORMAR
We must get out of here before the boarding party reaches us.

SOUND: AIRLOCK OPENS

THE ROBOT
We should make our way to the bridge.

ENLING
Won’t the goons already be on the bridge?

SOUND: BULKHEAD DOOR OPENING

(THREE SETS OF BOOTS CLOMP IN)

HESS
Rikken was right, they are here.

SOUND: BLASTER DRAWN FROM HOLSTER

SOUND: BLASTER DRAWN FROM HOLSTER

PARKER
Don’t anyone move.

SOUND: BLASTER DRAWN FROM HOLSTER

THE ROBOT
Tyger crew, please stay where you are.

PARKER
That’s what I just said.

HESS
So what are you supposed to be?

THALMAN
It’s a robot.

HESS
I know that, but it just said it’s not from the Tyger.

THE ROBOT
You are aboard the Sihaya illegally and will be dealt with accordingly.

HESS
(NOT IMPRESSED)
Really?

SOUND: GEARS AND SERVOS WHIRR

SOUND: FIST PUNCH

HESS
[Cries out]

SOUND: BODY FALL

SOUND: GEARS AND SERVOS WHIRR

SOUND: FIST PUNCH

THALMAN
[Oof]

SOUND: FIST PUNCH

THALMAN
[Ugh]

SOUND: BODY FALL

SOUND: GEARS AND SERVOS WHIRR

SOUND: METALLIC CRUNCH

PARKER
My gun!

SOUND: FIST PUNCH

PARKER
[Ooog!]

SOUND: BODY FALL

(A DUST-SETTLING PAUSE)

THE ROBOT
Are you all unharmed?

ENLING
My belief in my wushu prowess has taken a hit.

TORMAR
You move with considerable speed, robot.

ENLING
So, uh, I don’t think I should be calling you “tin man.”

THE ROBOT
“Tin Man” is not my correct designation.

ENLING
What is your correct designation?

THE ROBOT
I am Taquermeraphon Six-Five-One, Royal Plenipotentiary and Privileged Servant of the Exalted Khalil al-Zamin.

ENLING
It helps that you don’t have to take a breath.

AIDAN
So, what do we do with the crew here?

TORMAR
They are still alive, but unconscious.

THE ROBOT
Lethal force was not warranted.

ENLING
I don’t know if they would return the favor.

TORMAR
And are there more of them?

RIKKEN
(RADIO FILTER)
Hess, what’s your status? Did you find them? Come in, Hess, over.

AIDAN
Is that their ship or someone on board here?

TORMAR
I would say here. That was one of the voices we heard in the corridor earlier.

THE ROBOT
We should move presently.

ENLING
The bridge you said?

SOUND: GUN DROP

AIDAN
You broke all their blasters.

THE ROBOT
The objective was to incapacitate the opposing forces.

AIDAN
That leaves us with Enling’s blaster.

ENLING
Hey, have a little faith… and don’t forget the robot’s wushu.

AIDAN
Yeah, it’s not like this will get them angry or anything.

MUSIC: TRANSITION MUSIC FADES IN

SILVER STAR BRIDGE – SPACE

(SAME AMBIENT AS BEFORE)

MUSIC: TRANSITION MUSIC FADES OUT

JOCHI BORTAY
So wait, you’re telling me no one is injured?

RIKKEN
(RADIO FILTER)
A few bruises and bruised egos, but no broken bones.

JOCHI BORTAY
But you said the robot smashed all the blasters too.

RIKKEN
(RADIO FILTER)
Well, yes, but everyone’s okay. We’ll get them Jochi, I swear.

JOCHI BORTAY
Everyone’s not okay until you do.

SOUND: SWITCH CLICK

SOUND: AIRLOCK OPENS

SYLVIA MALABAR
Jochi, do we have prisoners?

JOCHI BORTAY
No.

SYLVIA MALABAR
No?

JOCHI BORTAY
Not yet.

SOUND: AIRLOCK CLOSES

SYLVIA MALABAR
(PAUSE)
So, we have a problem.

JOCHI BORTAY
We kept them from leaving the airlock and half of Rikken’s party found them trying to double back, but…

SYLVIA MALABAR
But the Tyger crew was faster on the draw?
(BEAT)
How many casualties?

JOCHI BORTAY
None.

SYLVIA MALABAR
What?

JOCHI BORTAY
Apparently, some robot overwhelmed them, just knocked them all out.

SYLVIA MALABAR
A robot?

JOCHI BORTAY
I should have led the boarding party. I should have been there.

SYLVIA MALABAR
Focus, Mr. Bortay.

JOCHI BORTAY
Captain?

SYLVIA MALABAR
Robots aren’t Reg Macorum’s style. He doesn’t care for them.

JOCHI BORTAY
That means, it’s a Cee-Tee bot.

SYLVIA MALABAR
Exactly. And if it’s a Cee-Tee bot, that means it’s probably there guarding our package.

JOCHI BORTAY
If that’s so, why can’t our scanners pick up the package?

SYLVIA MALABAR
If they spent the monits to shield the robot, they had the monits to shield the package.
(BEAT)
Bring us alongside the docking collar. I want anyone aboard who’s a bit an armsman on that boat. I want that package.

JOCHI BORTAY
We still have the Tyger to deal with.

SYLVIA MALABAR
True. Well… Captain Macorum can either cut his losses on this trip or just sit tight until we need him. Charge the cannon.

SOUND: MANEUVERING THRUSTERS

JOCHI BORTAY
Bringing us in line for firing.

SYLVIA MALABAR
Make him leave or make him lame, Mr. Bortay.

SOUND: PARTICLE BEAM FIRING

TYGER BRIDGE – SPACE

(SAME AMBIENT AS BEFORE)

GRAINNE
That’s a particle cannon all right, captain. Made to look like it’s just part of the Silver Star’s nose.

REG MACORUM
Bells and whistles indeed. I guess they couldn’t afford a turreted mount, though this way it’s well-hidden.

SOUND: MANEUVERING THRUSTERS

GRAINNE
I’m adjusting our position.

SOUND: MANEUVERING THRUSTERS

REG MACORUM
Grainne, I’m sure that was only a warning shot.

GRAINNE
Maybe. In any case, the cannon will need to recharge. If they do want to line up a shot, I’ll make them work for it.

REG MACORUM
I can’t tell if they want to hit us or just scare us.

GRAINNE
Well, you know Captain Malabar. What is she likely to do?

REG MACORUM
Since she hasn’t attacked us yet, she’s either under orders not to or she hasn’t gotten the answers she wants from our crew. Hopefully both.

GRAINNE
It would help if we knew what she was doing here. You think she’s after the troublesome Captain Reg Macorum?

REG MACORUM
Flattering, but unlikely. She was looking for this courier as well. I wish we had more answers from our crew.

GRAINNE
The wireless is going to be too easy to triangulate, even if the message is encrypted.

REG MACORUM
I know. We could take a shot at them I suppose, but it would need to count.

GRAINNE
The Silver Star is very close to the wreck. If they dodge…

REG MACORUM
Captain Malabar and I do have different views on acceptable losses.

SOUND: PARTICLE BEAM FIRING

GRAINNE
That was a bit too close.

SOUND: MANEUVERING THRUSTERS

REG MACORUM
It looks like they want to disable our engines.

SOUND: MANEUVERING THRUSTERS

GRAINNE
We’re running out of maneuvering room.

SOUND: PARTICLE BEAM FIRING

REG MACORUM
I think Captain Malabar has made her decision.

SOUND: MANEUVERING THRUSTERS

GRAINNE
We should make ours.

REG MACORUM
Prepare for a jump.

SOUND: FTL DRIVE SPINS UP

GRAINNE
Spinning up the drive.

REG MACORUM
We need to risk a message to the others.

SOUND: PARTICLE BEAM FIRING

SOUND: MANEUVERING THRUSTERS

GRAINNE
If I could ask you to handle that, captain…

SOUND: MANEUVERING THRUSTERS

REG MACORUM
Just this once.

MUSIC: TRANSITION MUSIC FADES IN

COURIER CORRIDOR

(SAME AS BEFORE)

MUSIC: TRANSITION MUSIC FADES OUT

TORMAR
Understood, Captain. I have all the tools we discussed this morning. We will find a way to signal you. Tormar, out.

AIDAN
Wait a minute, what did the captain say?

THE ROBOT
Your captain did not sound positive.

TORMAR
We must do our best until they return.

ENLING
I thought that’s what we were doing.

SOUND: METALLIC CLANKS

AIDAN
Was that sound what I think it was?

THE ROBOT
If you are referring to a ship linking to the docking collar, you are correct.

ENLING
And the Tyger has just jumped away.

AIDAN
But Tormar, didn’t you say the Silver Star had a bigger crew?

TORMAR
Considerably larger than the Tyger, yes.

AIDAN
And they’d be docking with us to send that larger crew here.

ENLING
That’s what I’d do.

TORMAR
As I stated, we must do our best, but we are now alone.
